The Role of Fascia in Everyday Life --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- lead by guest artist Chris Aiken --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- $40 - $50
Chris Aiken is an internationally recognized performer and teacher of dance improvisation and contact improvisation. His approach has been guided by the effort to link our poetic sensibility with the capacity to engage ecologically through perception, action, and imagination. In this sense, ecology includes our sense of self, our sense of other beings, and our sense of the world around us. It includes culture and human artifacts. Chris has performed and collaborated with many renowned dance artists including Angie Hauser, Kirstie Simson, Nancy Stark Smith, Peter Bingham, Andrew Harwood, Ray Chung and Steve Paxton. His work has been shaped by years of practice in the Alexander Technique, Gyrokinesis, ideokinesis, yoga, and fascial body work and movement training. He is a Professor of Dance at Smith College.

I have scoliosis. I have spent time in my life embracing it, ignoring it, not understanding, fixing it and working to understand it. I have learned how to help my body get more gel-like and enjoy my movement practice more. I would like to share my practice with you. There is a new workshop starting on April 6. email us to sign-up: nancy@nancypilates.com
My scoliosis has caused pain, caused me to not be able to balance and confused me. It is great to move the body and I understand needing a knowledgeable outside perspective to collaborate on how to make movement more comfortable and feel less limitations and pain. Our spines and bones move just like everyone else’s however ours our “facing” different directions. Do you want to understand your curves and move with them? Sign-up for scoliosis workshop.
